Trials, Triumphs, and Transformation,
all within a supportive community.
It is common these days to start a yoga practice with online videos. I am absolutely supportive of online yoga, especially if you have a busy schedule and want to dedicate time for your practice. But if you have been wanting to try a class at a studio, gym, or other public facility, I highly encourage you to push your comfort zone and just show up.
Before your first class, you might be nervous, worried that you aren’t “good” enough, feeling self conscious and anxious. Show up anyways, as you are. I can assure you that no one will judge you. I began practicing at my studio during a time when I was depressed, anxious, and dealing with an eating disorder. I have never felt judged or even an ounce of competitiveness at the studio. There is a common understanding that we show up with various abilities and challenges, and sometimes with injuries or illness. Just show up, willing to try. Keep showing up, with motivation to learn, strength to keep trying, and humility to accept your challenges.
I keep showing up. My practice is always transforming and so is my life outside of the studio. My relationship to my strengths and weaknesses on the yoga mat translate to my trials and triumphs off the yoga mat. The connection I feel to the inner workings of my mind is truly transforming - as an observer instead of a victim. At the studio, I meet others who were also experiencing this, and we share our gratitude. It is undeniable that we thrive when immersed in a supportive community.
I keep showing up. Through the yoga studio, I’ve gained friends, teachers, mentors, students, and a love dear to my heart. I continue to learn how I relate to myself, the world, and the universe.
If you have been wanting to try something new, whatever that may be
I highly encourage you to push your comfort zone and just show up.
