Topic: Use your Imagination!
Theme: Group Games & Picture Day
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify the components of being STARS, demonstrate a sun salutation, and will be able to Om. Students will be able to do most of the poses we have learned in "yogi says" (simon says) Students will play yoga leap frog. Students will take turns doing tree pose and will be photographed. Students who are waiting to being photographed will practice partner poses with another student.
Materials:
speakers for music.
Instructional Methods:
I will begin the lesson with everyone seated in a circle then individual students will read my STARS posters. Then I will ask "who are we?" to which they will reply, "we are STARS, we are serious, trustworthy, attentive, respectful, and successful."
Then, I will have the whole group follow me in a sun salutation. After the sun salutation and Om, we will play yogi says. Next, we will play yoga leap frog. After yoga leap frog, we will do a meditation practice. I will explain to the students the new project we are working on (yoga trees) and show them an example. The students who are waiting for their picture to be taken will do partner poses that we have learned and practiced.
Engaging Exercises:
In order to meet the objectives, students will answer what STARS means, I will ask different students to read each blurb for STARS.
Students will be engaged during our sun salutation, yoga poses, meditation, and Om.
Students will have fun playing yoga leap frog.
Students will have fun playing yogi says.
Group Activities:
-Students will be actively engaged while doing (and saying) this sun salutation for kids:
breath in, lift your arms up and say "I'm thankful for the sun!"
breathe out, let your finger tips rain down to the ground (forward fold, uttanasana) and say "I'm thankful for the rain!"
breathe in, look in front of you (half lift, ardha uttanasana) and say "I'm thankful for the grass!"
lower all the way to the ground then do cobra pose and say "I'm thankful for the animals!"
push your hips back into downward facing dog pose
step one foot forwards into a low lunge, lift your arms and say "I'm thankful for the flowers!"
we will repeat this one more time, stepping the opposite foot forward in low lunge.
Yogi says and yoga leap frog will be all together.
Partner:
Students will practice partner poses.
Individual:
Students will do tree pose and will be photographed.
Closure:
Lastly, we will do one more sun salutation together and one more Om.
Assessment:
I will ask those who practiced partner poses to show the rest of the class their pose. I will ask what the components of being stars is. I will take note of what poses need more help during yogi says.
