Topic: Making a sequence
Theme: Yoga Rotations
Objectives:
students will be able to identify the components of being STARS, demonstrate a sun salutation, identify an Om symbol, be able to explain what Om means and why we Om, and will be able to Om. Students will split into groups and do rotations, they will have 2 minutes to do each pose at each rotation. At the end of the rotations we will do a sequence involving all of the poses they practiced in the rotations. Next, students will use pipe cleaners to create stick figures doing the yoga pose of their choice. Students will be able to meditate silently while practicing deep breathing as I lead them through a guided mediation involving one of their answers to, "what brings you peace?" We will end the class by doing one Om together.
Materials:
Yoga mats for all students, printed out images of the Om symbol, printed out images of the yoga poses for each rotation, and pipe cleaners.
Instructional Methods:
I will begin the lesson with everyone seated in a circle then individual students will read my STARS posters. Then I will ask "who are we?" to which they will reply, "we are STARS, we are serious, trustworthy, attentive, respectful, and successful."
Then, I will have the whole group follow me in a sun salutation. After the sun salutation I will pass out images of the Om symbol and ask the students to label it. We will discuss what Om means and why we Om. Next, students will split into groups and will be timed to do each yoga pose for 2 minutes. After everyone has done every yoga pose, we will all do a sequence of the yoga poses learned at each rotation. Then, I will pass out pipe cleaners and students will individually form stick figures, doing their favorite yoga pose. I will show examples and help anyone. Lastly, I will lead the students through a guided meditation involving one of their answers to, "what brings you peace?" We will end the class by doing one Om all together.

Notes:
What the Om symbol means:
The bottom of the 3 shape: You are awake and using all of your senses to be aware of what is going on around you.
The top of the 3 shape: Things that we are experiencing yet we don’t understand them yet.
The curve next to the 3: You are dreaming. You are not awake or in a deep sleep. Your brain makes stories and pictures for you to see.
The swoop above the 3 shape: Our reactions to the things we experience.
The dot above the 3 shape: when you are the most calm, the most peaceful.
We Om together to embrace all of these aspects of ourselves and to understand that all other living beings also have these aspects of themselves.
